Three Things Pediatric Physicians Know Better Than Other Doctors

A few years ago when I was involved in a car accident, I had no idea how challenging it would be to spring back from things. I was really frustrated about the issue, but I didn't know how to make things right. One of the first things I was left dealing with was the fact that my medical insurance claims were being rejected on a daily basis, so I decided to start fighting things. This website is all about how to deal with frustrating medical insurance claims and how to work with the people behind the scenes. Check out this blog for great information.

Pediatric physicians often choose their specialization based on the fact that they love children and they want to make them feel better. If you are tempted to avoid having a pediatrician for your children for whatever reason, you should reconsider it. There are several things a pediatrician knows better than almost any other doctor:

Kids' Bodies Are More Resilient

Kids have more bones than adults, and they have more connective tissue in their bodies that have not hardened into cartilage yet. As such, they are able to take a fall better than an adult, and they heal faster too. That said, if you find that your child has had an accident and you are deathly worried that he/she may be damaged for life, rest assured that your pediatrician knows that that is not the case.

If You Did Not Breastfeed, Your Kids DEFINITELY Need Immunizations

When babies are born, they receive a lot of antibodies from their mother's milk. This helps build the first building blocks of lifelong health and wellness. If you did not breastfeed your children, they did not receive those antibodies. As such, they are in greater need of immunizations against disease and illness than children who were breastfed. If your doctor is pushing you to immunize the kids, and you did not breastfeed any of them, this is why.

Most Developmental Delays and Disorders Are NOT Your Fault

It is heartbreaking to learn that your child has developmental delays or a developmental disorder like autism. However, your pediatrician knows that you are not to blame for this. Unless you were a heavy drug user or you drank to excess during your pregnancy, your child's developmental delay/disorder is not your fault.

Avoiding taking your child to a pediatrician because you are afraid you will be blamed for your child's special needs is unnecessary. Talking to your pediatrician about this will reveal that your child, for the most part, is quite typical in other ways. This will help you reframe how you see your child and provide you with a valuable resource of information regarding your child's delays via the pediatrician.

Child Development and Wellness Is Everything

Your pediatrician has an immense bounty of information on child development and can answer just about any question you have. If he/she does not have the answer, he/she knows someone who does. If you need a specialist of another kind to help your child (e.g., allergist, dermatologist, etc.), then your pediatrician can give you the necessary references you need to help your child with special problems.
