Things You Should Know About Medicare Insurance

A few years ago when I was involved in a car accident, I had no idea how challenging it would be to spring back from things. I was really frustrated about the issue, but I didn't know how to make things right. One of the first things I was left dealing with was the fact that my medical insurance claims were being rejected on a daily basis, so I decided to start fighting things. This website is all about how to deal with frustrating medical insurance claims and how to work with the people behind the scenes. Check out this blog for great information.

Medicare has been around for a while, but people still don't know much about it. That said, this article will cover some basic things you need to know about Medicare insurance. At least you'll learn some things that might help you with the enrollment and application process.

Medicare Has Four Main Parts

Unlike most health insurance policies, Medicare is divided into various parts. So, don't assume it's a one-stop shop for your medical needs. Here are the four main parts you should know.

  • Part A – This insurance part covers hospice care, inpatient hospital stays, palliative care, and care in a skilled nursing facility.
  • Part B – This medicare plan covers outpatient care, medical equipment, and services such as laboratory tests, mental health care, and some ambulance services.
  • Part C – It's also known as Medicare Advantage Plan, and you can get it from private companies approved by Medicare.
  • Part D – This plan helps you pay for different prescription medications.

You Should Apply Before Turning 65

Everyone who's reached 65 years is eligible for Medicare. However, you should start the application process during the seven-month window period. The enrollment period begins 90 days before your 65th birthday and closes three months after your 65th birthday. To avoid late penalties, you should ensure you have completed the application on time. Moreover, you wouldn't want to go for a year without coverage due to a late application.

Medicare Provide Limited Dental and Vision Coverage

When you enroll for Medicare, you should know that it doesn't cover all your dental and eye care costs. Don't expect it to cover eye examinations related to glass prescriptions. However, it can cover eye exams for glaucoma.

Also, don't rely on Medicare for dental procedures such as dental extractions, dental implant services, and gum disease treatment. However, Medicare can help pay for dental services that are done during your stay in a hospital.

You Can't Enroll As a Family

Medicare is quite different from other health insurance policies. The program only covers one person at a time. So, don't expect your spouse or dependents to benefit from your Medicare plan. Every family member will have to qualify on their own to reap the benefits of Medicare.

You Can Supplement Medicare With a Medigap Policy

If you feel that Medicare isn't enough, you can always supplement it with a Medigap policy. With a Medigap policy, you don't have to spend much money on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
